This is a project for women who are nameless in history. In the fairy tale, The Little Mermaid, by Hans Christian Andersen, the Little Mermaid’s sisters were not assigned any names. The Little Mermaid was in sorrow because the Prince she loved married a neighboring princess. The nameless sisters sacrificed their beautiful hair to the Sea Witch in return for a dagger, which they gave to the Little Mermaid to kill the Prince. If the Little Mermaid kills the Prince, she can return back to her mermaid self.
I can only spot those nameless sisters by picking up dots and connecting them. Making paper from spreading fiber is an act of drawing a line between those dots.
これは歴史における名無しの女性たちのためのプロジェクトである。アンデルセン童話の『人魚姫』において、人魚姫の姉たちは名前を与えられなかった。人魚姫は王子が隣国の王女と結婚したことで悲しみに暮れていた。名前の無い姉たちはその美しい髪を海の魔女に捧げ、もらった短剣で王子を殺せと人魚姫に渡した。人魚姫が王子を殺せば、彼女は人間から人魚に戻れるのだった。
私は、点と点を拾い集め繋げていくことでしか名無しの姉たちの存在を確認することができない。 一本一本の繊維を固めて紙を作ることは、それらの点と点に線を引いていく行為である。
