I distributed handmade zines, not in a form of distribution that involves money, but in a form of exchange between “items that the audience considers to be of equivalent value to my zines.” I did a barter exchange. For example, a snack bag, a used book, or something that the audience made, etc., can all be exchanged if the audience thinks they are equivalent to the zines.
From 2025, the project has restarted collaborating with the independent book publisher DOOKS. In 2025 at Taipei Art Book Fair, I re-bartered a book, “My Book ⇄ Something Yours”, which is comprised of the things exchanged in Nagano and Tokyo. The things exchanged in Taiwan will also be documented to make a new book, and the new book will again be exchanged in the next event. Thing is a project that a book becomes a book and keeps circulating.
People’s expectations cross in this work — I do have an expectation to get something equivalent to the price I always set on these zines, and the audience does have an expectation to worth giving something to me; however, values of things change depending on the people. For example, how much memory they have, how much time they took to make it, are something adds to their value. We also need to consider the background of the person, such as where they are from, how much they can afford, what made them feel in this way, etc.
We put fixed values on things when we want to get profits in this economic system. In this capitalist society, which always needs to get surplus for the future, can people’s emotions, like kindness, tender care, or affection, be accommodated in any way? This is a project to look for an accommodation of those flexible and extensible values.

2024年に、SUWAガラスの里（長野）で二度、テンプル大学ジャパンキャンパス（東京）で一度、金銭を伴う配布という形ではなく、“観客が私のzineと同等の価値があると考えるアイテム”同士の交換という形で、ハンドメイドのzineを配布した。物々交換をしたのだ。例えば、お菓子の袋、古本、観客が作ったものなど、観客がzineと同等だと思えば、すべて交換できる。
そして、2025年より、独立出版レーベルDOOKSとの共同プロジェクトとして再始動した。2025年の台北アートブックフェアにて、長野と東京で交換された物の記録をまとめた本「My Book ⇄ Something Yours」を、来場者の持ち物と交換した。台湾にて交換されたものは記録されて新しい本になり、次回のイベントで来場者の持ち物と再度交換される。本が本になって巡っていくというプロジェクトである。
この作品では、人々の期待が交錯している。私は本に設定したい価格と同等のものを手に入れたいという期待をしているし、観客は私に何かを与える価値があるものであれ、という期待を抱いている。しかし、物々交換においては、物の価値は個人の背景によって変わる。例えば、どれだけの思い入れがあるのか、どれだけの時間をかけて作ったか、そういったことがその物の価値を高めている。また、どこから来たのか、いくらまでなら出せるのか、何が感情を動かしたのか、など、買う側の背景も考える必要がある。
この経済システムの中で利益を得ようとするとき、私たちは物事に固定的な価値をつける。将来のために常に余剰を必要とするこの資本主義社会で、優しさ、いたわり、愛情といった人の感情は、何らかの形で受け入れることができるのだろうか。このプロジェクトは、そうした柔軟で拡張可能な価値観の融合を模索するものである。
